The consortium of Eiffage Immobilier and Pitch Promotion has won a competition for designing a new district in the metropolis on the French Riviera.
In the “Destination Méridia” call for designs of the new district of Nice, an international team of planners and architects has selected the project Joia Méridia developed jointly by the consortium of Pitch Promotion and Eiffage Immobilier. The call was issued by EPA Nice Eco-Vallée.
Joia Méridia is an example of a macrolot, a French term used to describe a uniform multi-functional urban area addressing various needs of its residents. In the native dialect of Nice, nissarda, the name of the district translates as “enjoyment”. In keeping with its name, Joia Méridia is to become an open and friendly residential area, bustling with life 24/7, and the epitome of a “city of tomorrow”. It is a flagship project of Nice Eco-Vallée – a new elegant district west of the centre of Nice, the largest city onCote d’Azur. Its planning concept, landscape insertion and 21st century architectural design are all intended by the project architects to contribute to improved life quality of the city’s residents.
Within the total area of 73,500 m2, Joia Méridia will include 51,300 m2 of housing (with 800 apartments), 7,900 m2 of hotels and serviced accommodation, 4,685 m2 of retail, 2,850 m2 of offices and service premises, as well as over 5,000 m2 for the community leisure and recreational centre. Additionally, 1,220 private and public parking spaces are planned. Its mixed programming is carried towards the new practices, as shared and dynamic workplaces, hybrid buildings and flexible housing will be also built.
Sustainability has been the guiding principle behind the design of Joia Méridia. Both residential and public buildings are required to obtain environmental certificates. The green spaces are planned on 4,000 m2, of which 2,000 m2 will be used for gardens. The power supplies for the entire district will come from its own purpose-built geothermal power plant.
The construction works on Joia Méridia are to be completed in 7-8 years.
Nice Eco-Vallée is a complex urban development project planned to be completed within the timeframe of 30 years. Altogether, it involves 15 communes in the valley of the River Var. The overarching objective of the project is to stimulate economic development of Nice, the metropolis on the French Riviera. For more information, please visit:http://eco-vallee-nicecotedazur.com/
