Women are building the future of the construction industry

March 8 is a perfect opportunity to highlight the growing role of women in construction – from designers and engineers to leaders. Women are entering this sector with increasing confidence, challenging long-standing beliefs and prejudices.

Construction is still often perceived as a physically demanding, highly technical industry reserved mainly for men, and for young women – unattractive and difficult. We must break these stereotypes. We must show that construction is a space where innovation, creativity, and technical knowledge matter far more than physical strength. The industry is changing, and one of the most positive shifts is the growing role of women – in a wide range of positions, from design and engineering to management. This is not just a trend, but a lasting transformation. On International Women’s Day, it is important to say loudly – women are building and increasingly stepping into the world of construction, breaking down stereotypes. And it’s not about “building relationships.” Just a dozen or so years ago, women in construction-related degree programs were in the minority. Today, the proportion of women at technical universities is rising, and female graduates of construction programs now represent a significant part of the engineering workforce. In the last academic year, out of more than 40,000 graduates in the fields of technology, industry, and construction, as many as 15,000 were women. This is a significant step forward.

At Eiffage, we observe this change up close. We regularly visit construction faculties at job fairs, support technical education, and collaborate with leading technical universities, while also supporting young women through our “Równość murowana” (Equality Set in Stone) campaign. These are not empty slogans for us – women make up 50% of the management boards of both our companies – Eiffage Immobilier Polska and Eiffage Polska Budownictwo. What’s more, nearly half of all Eiffage employees in Poland are women (46%), and in our core construction business focused on general contracting, already one in three employees is female. Women are tangibly building the future of the industry today. Encouraging them to explore career paths in construction is an investment in the dynamic development of the entire sector, says Monika Balewska, HR Director at Eiffage.

At Eiffage, we know that the construction industry is a place for everyone, regardless of gender. What matters are commitment, passion, and the will to grow. That is why we consistently support technical education, visit construction faculties at job fairs, collaborate with leading technical universities, and challenge discriminatory beliefs as part of our social campaign “Równość murowana.”

To all ambitious women who, through their daily work, shape the future of construction – we wish you constant motivation, success, and satisfaction from your projects. Your efforts are changing the industry for the better!
