Eiffage Group buys a 5.03% stake in Getlink – the Channel Tunnel concession holder
Eiffage’s investment, worth EUR 307.5 million, was financed with the company’s own funds.
Getlink, formerly known as Eurotunnel, is one of the key players in the European transport infrastructure market. It is the concession holder for the Channel Tunnel (opened in 1994) valid until 2086. The stake acquired by Eiffage gives 4.33% of the total number of votes at the General Meeting of Getlink. Eiffage’s capital engagement is intended to be long-term and may increase depending upon the market conditions.
Eiffage is the 5th largest construction group in Europe. It operates in more than 50 countries on five continents and employs 65,000 people. In Poland, the Group is represented by companies: Eiffage Polska Serwis, Eiffage Immobilier Polska (EIP) and Eiffage Polska Budownictwa (EPB) – a general contractor for construction services, specialized in complex construction services for office, commercial, hotel, residential, industrial and sports buildings.
Globally, Eiffage Group operates in four segments:
- in the Construction segment, Eiffage is involved in construction and restoration projects of buildings, housing estates or entire districts (e.g. Joia Meridia in Marseille), utilities (desalination plant in Djibouti), as well as health care, sports and education facilities, and hotels (e.g. Grand Hôtel-Dieu in Lyon).
- in the Energy Systems segment, Eiffage projects include renewable energy plants, e.g. the largest photovoltaic power plant in Europe “Constantin”, the “Huatacondo” photovoltaic farm currently under construction in the Atacama Desert in Chile, and the Singrobo-Ahouaty hydroelectric power plant in Côte d’Ivoire.
- in the Infrastructures segment, Eiffage Group is developing road, rail (e.g. Grand Paris Express in France and High Speed Rail II in the UK) and maritime infrastructure (construction of Kieldrecht water lock in Antwerp, an artificial island in Monaco).
- in the Concessions segment, in the area of transport infrastructure, Eiffage Group holds concessions for the management of the fourth largest motorway network in Europe, through its French subsidiary APRR.
Many Eiffage projects around the world are implemented on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis. The best-known are: the construction and management of the viaduct in Millau, France; the redevelopment and renovation of the Grand Arc in the Paris district of La Défense (Grande Arche de La Défense); as well as motorways in Germany (A94) and in Senegal (Dakar-Diamniadio).
Getlink SE is a European public company listed simultaneously on Euronext London and Paris, and the operator of the Channel Tunnel. In 2017, the consolidated revenue of Getlink Group was EUR 1,033 million, of which EUR 915 million came directly from the provision of passenger and freight transport services in the tunel.
